Member Protection Information Officer gatherings strengthen networks across Tasmania
Active Tasmania recently hosted two Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) Network Gatherings in Hobart and Launceston.
The MPIO Network helps officers stay informed after training and provides opportunities to share practices and processes across different sports. It supports collaboration and promotes safe, inclusive sport in Tasmania.

Both events featured guest speaker Joanne Stolp, Commander, Community Engagement at Tasmania Police. Joanne works with community organisations across the state and is a strong advocate for safe and inclusive sport. She brings extensive experience supporting volunteers and has deep knowledge of the Tasmanian sporting landscape through her involvement with Water Polo Tasmania and Carlton Park Life Saving Club.
The gatherings included updates on:
- Child and Youth Safe legislation
- Mandatory reporting requirements
- The role of an MPIO in managing issues and complaints
- Safe sport scenarios.
Feedback was very positive. Participants valued the interactive sessions and the chance to connect with others in the sector.
Active Tasmania is planning similar events in 2026.
