How to use the Tasmanian Community Sport Facilities Portal

1. Page navigation

At the top of the page, you’ll find the navigation buttons.

You can use these buttons to navigate between the user guide and the portal homepage.

2. Map features

Inside the portal, you'll find two interactive map views.

Both views show all 29 Tasmanian Local Government Areas.

The bold purple lines highlight their boundaries.

The blue icons represent the location of each facility/site within the map.

  • The ‘Sports Facilities by LGA’ view shows sports facilities by Local Government Area.
  • The ‘Projected Population by LGA’ view shows projected population trends for these areas with sporting facilities.

3. Additional features

How toIconDescription
Search for a location This is the search icon 

Enter the name of a suburb, town, city or place name in the search field.

Return to default map This is the return to default location icon  Click the home button to return to the default extent of the map.
View the legend this is the legend icon 

Select the legend at the top right of the screen to turn on.

Turn layers on and off this is the layers icon 

Select the layer list at the top right of the screen to turn layers on and off. You can view a site by facility type using this feature. See section 4 of these instructions (how to view by facility type).

Change the basemap this is the basemap icon 

Select the basemap tool in the top right corner of the screen. You can change the basemap layer, like LIST TasMap or Streetmap.

this is the zoom icon 

To focus on your area, use the zoom tools in the bottom right of the screen.

You can zoom in or out as needed. Alternatively move your mouse over the map to where you want to zoom in / zoom out.

  • Scroll Up (away from you) to zoom in.
  • Scroll Down (towards you) to zoom out.
Reset the search filters this is the reset icon 

The reset button only appears when there has been an interaction with the dashboard.

Resetting the dashboard clears any selections made on elements, returns the map to its default extent and all map tools to their defaults.

To reset the search filters and go back to the statewide view, the user will need to click the reset button, located at the bottom right corner of the screen.

Alternatively, a refresh of the portal webpage will reset the filters.

4. Search and view options

Lists are interactive, and you can search by name or click to go directly to a site and area within the map.

Site name

The Site Name is the known name of the facility/site and displays a summary of the different facilities at the site.

How to search by site name

  1. Click on a site name to go directly to the site on the map.
  2. Search by the name of a site to display in the list and click to go directly to a site on the map.

Number of sites by Local Government Area

There are  29 Local Government Areas in Tasmania.

The number shown next to each Local Government Area is the count of facility sites within that area.

There are two way to  search by Local Government Area

  1. Click on a Local Government Area to go directly to the area on the map.
  2. Search by the name of a Local Government Area and click on the name to go directly to that area on the map.

Number of sites by facility type

The facility type lists the different facilities and the total number of those published on the map.

How to view by facility type

To use this feature, the user will need to change the map layer. Complete the following steps:

  1. Click the layer list at the top right corner of the map.
  2. Click the arrow to expand the map layers for Tasmanian Sport Facilities.
  3. Click the eye icon (known as the visibility button) next to the facility type layer. This will add a new layer, and additional blue icons will appear on the map.
  4. Click the visibility button next to the facility layer to remove this layer and hide all facility content.
  5. Click a facility type from the list to display that type of facility on the map.

You can select more than one facility type to view in the map.

How to remove the facility type layer and reset the map

To reset the map layer and return to the default display, the user can refresh the webpage or complete the following steps:

  1. Click the layer list at the top right corner of the map.
  2. Click the arrow to expand the map layers for Tasmanian Sport Facilities.
  3. Click the visibility button next to the facility type layer to hide this layer and the facility type content on the map.
  4. Click the visibility button next to the facility layer. This will show all the facility content on the map.

By completing these steps, the user will return to the default map layer.

5. How to query information about a site/facility

Select the blue icon on the map to view the attributes for that site. A window will appear displaying a summary of the site.

To view more information, click the site record link in the bottom right of the pop-out box. This will open in a new window tab to display the full site record.

To close the pop-out summary on the map, click the close button in the top right corner.
