New strategy to drive long-term vision for women and girls in sport
On Thursday 29 January 2026, the Tasmanian Government marked the launched of the new Tasmanian Women and Girls Sport Strategy 2026–2032.

The strategy – She moves. She leads. She belongs. – provides the strategic direction to help address the barriers for women and girls in sport and active recreation, and sets out a vision for Tasmania where women and girls have equal access and opportunities in sport and active recreation in a safe, inclusive and fun way.
An event coordinated by Active Tasmania had more than 50 guests from Tasmania’s peak sport and active recreation organisations gathered at the Tasmanian Hockey Centre for the strategy’s launch, which included a panel discussion from Tasmanian female sport leaders Jodie Mather (AFL), Mimi Knoop (surfing) and Karen Wills (football).
A detailed action plan will be developed in the first half of 2026 which will identify what needs to be done to achieve the objectives of the strategy.
The strategy’s end goal is to deliver real, measurable change for women and girls across Tasmania’s sporting sector.
